Bellis Beach Lake
I have fished this lake quite a few times over the past few summers and it is
a great little fishery. It is located in the area NB1 and was stocked with 14,000 Rainbow trout in May of 2002. There is a
nice little campsite there and a small sany beach also. I do have to say that campsite isn't as nice after the fire went through
the area last spring. There is no boat launch, but if you have a little boat you can carry it too the lake and plop it in.
Fishing is pretty good from shore and from a boat, but the rainbows average around 8-10 inches as in most stocked ponds. There
are some bigger ones though and the Alberta Fishing Guide says that there are rainbows up to two pounds and also some yellow
perch. I have never personally caught a perch there though, so if there are any they are few and far between.
I have
only fished this lake once in the winter and I got skunked, but that was in February. Some people say it is pretty good before
Christmas and then it slows down. Bigger fish also seem to be caught during this time period.
You can catch these
rainbows using worms, powerbait or marshmellows on a rig. You can also try small spoons and spinners seem to work well too.
I am not a fly fisherman though so I don't know what flies would be good.
If you want to get away from the crowds
at city potholes this is a great lake to get too.
